Ricky from Spain

Ricky
Cocker Ricky
from Spain, male, born 2015
Request by animal welfare organization near Madrid/Spain August 2023
Problem
Ricky lives with a widower who is increasingly struggling with health problems. The man eventually suffers a stroke and can no longer look after the animal. His relatives refuse to help the dog in any way. When the man had to decide to stay in hospital, Ricky – now unfortunately in a poor condition – ended up in an animal shelter.
Decision of the shelter: Adoption within 30 days or euthanasia due to advanced age and horrible condition.
Ricky is “released” from the shelter at the price of the costs of his stay there

Procedure
Step 1
- Ricky goes to a foster home that will look after him until he is adopted.
- He receives the necessary medical help, all costs are borne by the foster home.
- As Ricky can’t be left alone for a minute without howling, a gentle correction is made for this problem, tailored to the animal.
Step 2
- The temperament test shows that Ricky is a very pleasant and friendly male dog.
- The training to stay alone for a certain short period of time is in full swing.
- Self-esteem is encouraged, which – thanks to the other dogs that live there – is done in a playful way.
Step 3
- Search for suitable adopters.
Step 4
- Adopters found in Germany.
- Ricky is lucky
Pensioners in the country whose male cocker recently died are looking for an older, balanced, friendly male dog. - Visit before adoption not necessary – as this was already done years ago and the place proves to be exceptionally ideal.
- The continuous, long-standing relationship with this family fully confirms and deepens this impression.
Step 5
- Travel by car from the foster home to the coast.
- Swiss people who live in Denia-Spain and occasionally travel to Switzerland take him there in a private car and hand him over to the adopters at a certain meeting point.
Step 6
- Arrival with pensioners in the countryside.
- Ricky now lives a cozy life here as a beloved little prince.
Completion of the project in December 2023
it actually drags on for five months- Little Ricky needs several months to recover
- The extraction of teeth cannot be done in one go:
- He has a heart problem, so the anesthesia time may only last a certain number of minutes
- Sufficient recovery time must be allowed between operations.
